Jesus Villicana, Attorney

Jesus Villicana is a first-generation son of immigrant parents from Mexico.  He was born in Indio, California and he moved with his family to Texas in 2001.  Jesus grew up near the U.S.-Mexico border in Edinburg, TX along the Rio Grande Valley.  Growing up in the Rio Grande Valley with proximity to Mexico, he saw the struggles of immigrants fleeing extreme poverty and violence.  As a descendant of immigrant parents and living firsthand the struggles of assimilation into the American fabric, formed in him a desire to be an advocate for immigrants and their rights.

Jesus earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science in 2013 from the University of Texas – Pan American.  In the summer of 2015, Jesus had his first exposure to the complexities of immigration law when he served as an intern in the Department of Justice at the Executive Office for Immigration Review in Harlingen, TX.  This immersion with the Immigration Courts, reinforced his desire to practice immigration law.  During his law school years, he joined Garza & Associates as a law clerk in the summer of 2016, writing legal briefs, motions, complex affidavits, doing research on difficult cases, and case management.  He acquired extensive experience under the supervision of the principal owner Ms. Garza and senior attorney Yohanna Romero Baca to become one of the firm’s rising stars.  Jesus graduated with a Juris Doctorate degree, from Texas Southern University-Thurgood Marshall School of Law in 2017.  That same year he became a licensed attorney under the State Bar of Texas and was incorporated as an attorney at Garza & Associates.

As a licensed attorney at our firm, Jesus now assists in helping the firm’s most vulnerable clients who are facing the immediate threat of removal.  After being detained and/or placed in removal proceedings, Jesus successfully secures bonds and favorable rulings from immigration judges and officials at USCIS on behalf of the firm’s clients.  Moreover, Jesus assists unaccompanied children and their families to navigate the complex immigration system.  Jesus has attained favorable decisions on numerous applications before the immigration courts and USCIS, including asylum, withholding of removal, adjustment of status, and waivers of inadmissibility.

In Jesus’ spare time, he enjoys going to the park with his dog “Ryder” and traveling.  In college, he was an exchange student in France and he fell in love with world travel.
